If someone isn't an attorney, can I sue them for giving bad legal advice?

More than likely not. It would depend it is was just friends talking, or if they led you to believe they knew what they were talking about and what the ramifications were. You would have to prove you lost monetary things as a result of their advice. If someone isn't an attorney, can I sue them for giving bad legal advice?
If you knew the person wasn't an attorney, you could not consider their advice ';legal';. Not in good faith, anyway.

If they misrepresented their status and lead you to believe they were a lawyer, that's actually a crime. You cannot practice law without being licensed to do so. If someone isn't an attorney, can I sue them for giving bad legal advice?
No. Only an attorney is allowed to dispense legal advice, and only an attorney can be sued for dispensing poor legal advice.

Now, if this person represented himself as an attorney - and you honestly believed he was an attorney - that is a different story.

Change the facts: could you sue a non-physician friend for giving you poor medical advice? No.
i honestly don't know it depends i suppose on the circumstances, and whether the advice was given by a friend who unintentionally gave you the bad advice, unfortunately only a lawyer could advise on the matter.
