I am a Tenant in a duplex.About 2 %26amp; 1/2 years ago, the owner put a new roof on the whole duplex.. after about 3- 4 months the new roof was leeking acrossed the area that covers a garage, and also a porch. The area that covers the garage is still leaking.Landlord had the Roofer come to see it,after he was here he wrote a report out to me and the Landlord..He said that the reason rain water was leeking into the garage was cause I had rotted out window sills,between the outer window (Storm window)%26amp; the inside window %26amp; that I should always close the outer window when it is raining. So then the Landlord called the man that did an outside trim work with aluminum..he came %26amp; lined the inside window sill with same kind of alum. material as was used on the outside trim work of all windows around the outside of the house. did not correct the leaking problem, have shown the landlord 3-4 or more X so far %26amp; the leaking has created large holes in the ceiling of the garage.Now LL wants 2increase rent.Where can I get FREE Legal advice concerning Landlord Tenant Issues?
The state that you live in should have Tenant/Landlord on their website. It sounds to me that you may be able to put your rent money in Esgrow until the Landlord makes the repairs. AT OUR CITY HALL THEY HAVE A PERSON, THAT IS INCHARGE OF ';TENENT RIGHTS'; SO SEE IF YOURS DOES. IF NOT YOUR CITY ATTORNEY. I PUT A LIEN ON MY PLACE AND KEPT IT UP...FINALLY GOT THE PLACE FOR ONLY $500.00..I SPENT OVER$5000. FIXING UP WHAT HE SAID TO OF %26amp; GET CHEAPER RENT..THEN WHEN DONE, HE WAS GOING TO SELL..IT LOOKED SO NICE. JUST A SUGGESTION..GENTLEAGREMENT'S STOOD UP THERE.
